DERL HORN

Derl Horn served our country through the US Marine Corps from 1966 - 1968 taking his basic training at the Marine Recruiting Depot in San Diego, and advanced training at Camp Pendleton, CA. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC where he was deployed for five months to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and ten months in Vietnam.  

 

​Derl has written his memoirs “Blood, Sweat and Honor” Memoirs of a Walking Dead Marine in Vietnam,” while serving with 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.  Derl shares his account of fighting on the battlefields of Vietnam where he received a Purple Heart Medal for injuries received during Operation Buffalo along with Combat Action Medals and the Presidential Unit Citation. In the book he shares his struggles over the horrors of war, the support of family and friends, and the stabilizing power of his faith in God.

 

Derl is a native of Springdale, AR.  He was employed with Cooper Power Inc. for thirty-nine yearsretiring as an Industrial Engineer.  He is married to his High School sweetheart, Marilyn Buchanan Horn and they have three children, twin daughters, and a son along with five grandchildren.
